There are two type of mold inspectors: Certified Mold Inspectors and Industrial Hygienists. One or both types may perform inspection services at a property.
Certified Mold Inspectors perform mold testing using mold testing protocols set by laboratory Industrial Hygienists.
What is a CMI? A Certified Mold Inspector (CMI) is usually a home inspector, who performs a modified home inspection to find sources of moisture and recommends mold tests to take. Beware of any who basically do mold testing only.
Referrals to CMIs. Sam ("Sherlock Homes") Young, is a Certified Mold Inspector for Home InSight. We are aware of other CMIs and we do refer them on a case-by-case basis, such a to cover for vacations.
Home InSight's CMI. Sam Young is uniquely qualified as a Certified Mold Inspector
He has also assisted several homeowners to successfully complete mold remediation.
Industrial Hygienists are microbiologists. Certified Mold Inspectors work with them as a team.
Additional Capabilities. Unlike a CMI, Industrial Hygienists are capable of specifying a mold cleanup protocol for a mold remediator to follow.
However, Certified Mold Remediators are quite capable of specifying their own scope of work based on the results of a mold assessment.
When Services are Requested. Home InSight requests their services when it is difficult to clear a property (very rare) or a specific species of mold needs to be identified.
Certified Mold Inspector Value. The value to for residential customers is that Certified Mold Inspectors perform services for less than an Industrial Hygienist charges.
Certified Mold Inspectors are also experts on how houses are built and should know how the perform. Just be sure they do!
